World No.1 Jannik Sinner has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury but the rest of the top players in men's tennis are in China to battle it out at the hard-court tournament.
Alcaraz, Zverev and the rest of the top seeds, including defending champion Valentin Vacherot, have entered the draw after a bye in the first round and will now look to make it through the weekend.
Cameron Norrie suffered an opening-round exit at the hands of Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrčina but Wimbledon breakout star Arthur Fery is into the second round.
