The Xabi Alonso era at Chelsea is off to a winning start and looks to have brought a change in the transfer strategy.

This summer is a new start for Chelsea, who have appointed Alonso as the permanent replacement for Enzo Maresca.

The mid-season exit of Maresca, who has since succeeded Pep Guardiola at Man City, derailed the Blues in 2025/26 and they finished down in 10th.

Alonso is charged with bringing the good times back at Stamford Bridge and has a squad packed with talent after another spending spree.

His side beat Western Sydney Wanderers 6-4 in their first pre-season game and look to be chasing proven Premier League players, rather than rising stars, this summer.

Radio Times has rounded up the latest Chelsea transfer news, rumours and confirmed deals below.

Chelsea transfer news and rumours

Updated: Tuesday 28 July

Chelsea are chasing two experienced Premier League stars in Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson and Brighton forward Danny Welbeck.

The Blues have held positive talks with Brighton, who want a fair price for the 35-year-old, while the Bees are open to letting Henderson go.

Chelsea target John Stones is in advanced talks to join Inter Milan but Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix is thought to be close to joining the club.

A host of other players could leave Stamford Bridge this summer, including Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Malo Gusto, Axel Disasi and Nicholas Jackson.

A host of European clubs are circling Jackson, who is also an Aston Villa target, while Liam Delap is another player that could be sold if the Welbeck deal goes through.

The Blues will demand a significant fee for Pedro Neto should he be sold amid interest from Man City, Liverpool and Saudi Pro League clubs.

Striker Joao Pedro is considered untouchable by Chelsea despite Barcelona interest.
