Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) has headed to court in today's (27 July) EastEnders to receive his sentencing.

Earlier this year, the legendary character accidentally knocking over Jordan Fox (Jahsaiah Williams) with his car, though he was hopeful that top lawyer Mr Get-out (Adam Leese) would be able to provide some good news ahead of the plea hearing.
Get-out ushered Ian, his son Peter (Thomas Law) and Lauren Beale (Jacqueline Jossa) inside, as there was something that needed addressing.
He said that even if Ian pleaded guilty, it was likely that he'd receive a custodial sentence. Feeling like there was no other option, he decided to take the risk and hope that the judge considered his admission of wrongdoing in a favourable manner.
There was only one person who could help him now – Jordan's mum, Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams). She initially took some responsibility for not watching over her son and allowing him to run away, though later changed her stance when she learnt the extent of his injuries.

In today's instalment, Ian was well aware that it could be his final day in Albert Square before a stretch behind bars.
His family gathered to support him, and Get-Out arrived to deliver some hopeful news. He said that it was likely he'd receive a suspended sentence, though this would largely depend on whether Chelsea supported his claim that she dropped her duty of care.
Despite his bail conditions, he raced across the road and asked Chelsea whether she'd speak up. She was furious and ordered him to leave, slamming the door in his face.

Her aunt Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) was in the other room and heard Ian's voice. She was about to enter defence mode, but Chelsea leapt in and confessed her guilt.
Determined to do the right thing, she called Ian and said she'd meet him in the courtroom. However, on her way, the tube was delayed.

An anxious Ian shouted out asking for more time, well aware that his future could depend on what she says. The judge demanded that he stay silent, and only speak when spoken to.
Unfortunately, Chelsea didn't make it in time. Ian broke down in tears as he was handcuffed and taken down to start his eight month sentence.
