Millie Bobby Brown has revealed that only she and the creators of Stranger Things know what really happened to Eleven in the series finale.

The show’s ending saw Eleven take part in a final showdown with Vecna where she seemingly sacrificed herself in order to end Hawkins' connection to the Upside-Down once and for all, but Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) was subsequently shown imagining a future for the character where she had survived, prompting much speculation about her fate.

Speaking during a live recording of the Happy Sad Confused podcast recently, Brown revealed she made a pact with the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, never to share Eleven’s true fate.

“They were like, ‘Do not tell anyone. Because we made it a secret kind of pledge,'” Brown said.

“No one else knows. It’s just us three. And what we do with that information, it’ll be up to them.”

After the majority of the audience expressed their belief that the character survived, Millie said: "We have a hopeful audience. I love that!"

She added: “All people say now is, ‘Do you believe?’ And of course I believe. I have to believe, honestly — otherwise January will come around again.”

Since the Stranger Things finale, Brown has gone on to star in the third series of Enola Holmes, while upcoming projects include Netflix romantic comedy Picture It.

The actress was also set to star as Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug in a Netflix biopic, but the project was cancelled back in April following her exit.

According to reports, Brown’s departure was as a result of creative differences she had with the film’s producers.
