A new corner of the Dune universe has exploded onto television, with Sky and Max's small-screen spin-off exploring the origins of the frighteningly powerful Bene Gesserit sisterhood.

Set 10,000 years before the epic conflict between Paul Atreides and Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, this show follows a different plot entirely, but with some of the same lineages at the centre – not to mention a certain spice-producing planet.

Emily Watson (Chernobyl) and Olivia Williams (The Crown) lead the Dune: Prophecy cast as Valya and Tula Harkonnen, sisters who begin plotting how to manipulate their fraught world from a young age.

The series continues the momentum from Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two, which became a major box office hit when it landed in cinemas in March, with critics generally agreeing that it's a respectable foray into premium television for the franchise.

The first season will conclude on Monday 23rd December 2024.

There are six episodes in total in the series, making this a shorter offering than fellow prestige fantasy shows House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
