The new series swaps out David and Lucy's story for a fresh cast and a darker tale of redemption and revenge set in Night City.

That standalone, anthology-style approach is exactly why fans are already asking whether the story can keep going beyond this new chapter.

Edgerunners 2 was conceived not as a direct continuation but as a self-contained story in the same world, a format that in theory leaves the door open to further instalments. Here is everything we know about the prospects for a third chapter.

Will there be a Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 3?

There is currently no official confirmation of a third Cyberpunk: Edgerunners instalment. As of October 2026, CD Projekt Red, Studio Trigger and Netflix have focused their messaging entirely on the launch of Edgerunners 2, which premieres on 20 October.

It is worth remembering how uncertain the franchise's continuation looked at first. After the original series aired in 2022, CD Projekt Red publicly stated there were no plans for a follow-up, before the standalone sequel was finally announced in July 2025.

That history suggests the future of the franchise depends on how this new chapter performs rather than on any pre-existing roadmap.

Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor has spoken about the wealth of stories Night City still has to offer, framing the setting itself as the franchise's engine rather than any individual character.

Whether that translates into a third outing is likely to hinge on the reception and viewership of Edgerunners 2, following the pattern that saw the sequel greenlit only after the original became a breakout hit.

What have the cast and creators of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners said?

Sztybor has been open about the emotional stakes of the new series, warning fans not to get too attached to its characters, a nod to the franchise's willingness to put its cast through the grinder of Night City. He has also described Edgerunners 2 as a darker story of redemption and revenge, with the creative team treating the world as a space for ongoing tragedy.

Director Kai Ikarashi leads Edgerunners 2, with Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka returning to the creative team, and the production has been described as being in constant dialogue with the original season. None of the team has publicly committed to a specific third instalment, so any talk of Edgerunners 3 remains speculation for now.
