The Legend of Vox Machina is coming to an end with its fifth season on Prime Video, which will conclude this impressive adaptation of Critical Role's D&D campaign.

Fans will be sad to say goodbye to this incarnation of the epic story, but the franchise is only just getting started, with The Mighty Nein due to carry the torch moving forward.

What's more, Critical Role member Travis Willingham recently hinted that Vox Machina characters could be revisited in future projects, keeping their legacy intact.

"There is always a chance that characters will show up in campaigns or stories that they did not originally show up in," Willingham told Polygon.

"That's kind of the beauty of being able to pull the strings and change this stuff, so I would say it's highly encouraged for those sorts of appearances and cross-sections to manifest."

The Legend of Vox Machina season 5 release date speculation

The Legend of Vox Machina is confirmed to be returning for a fifth (and final) season on Prime Video – but the release date is still to be determined.

Prime Video assured the show's future back in July 2025, giving the creatives a chance to make a start on the concluding episodes before season 4 had even premiered.

However, as producer and star Sam Riegel recently told The Direct, "producing a season of animated television takes a long time," so it might be wise to brace yourself for a long wait.

He continued: "Season 5 is in the works. We have finished some episodes of it, there's still more work to be done on other episodes. Then, when we finish, it has to be adapted into different languages, and subtitled, and dubbed, and shipped all over the world and stuff, so it just takes a lot of time."

Riegel added: "I hope we won't have to wait super long, but I will tell you this: no matter how long the wait is, the payoff will be so worth it. Seasons 4 and 5 tell an incredible story, and I think we ended the series exactly how we wanted to."

The Legend of Vox Machina fell out of its annual pace after season 2, with the wait for the later entries ballooning to one year and eight months apiece.

If it continues to follow this production cycle, it would suggest a launch date for The Legend of Vox Machina season 5 in February 2028. That's just an estimate for now, though – we'll update this page when concrete details emerge.

It should come as no surprise that The Legend of Vox Machina season 5 will see the Critical Role regulars reprise their much-loved misfit characters.

The D&D group is comprised of Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O'Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel and Travis Willingham.

Of course, the series has welcomed various big-name stars over the course of its run, including Stephanie Beatriz (Hazbin Hotel), Indira Varma (The Night Manager), Gina Torres (Firefly), Andy Serkis (The Batman) and Henry Winkler (Arrested Development).

We'll have to wait and see which, if any, will reprise their roles, or if any additional surprise contributors will join the fun.
