The ending for Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 wound up being as off the rails as the original anime during its big climax, though some details on what happened to certain characters are still a little up in the air.

What’s more, those who might have finished a rewatch of the original Edgerunners will have noticed events for the sequel show had ended on a very different note, as well.

Before we get into that, here’s the fate of every Cyberpunk: 2 character worth mentioning after episode 10 – including D, Roman, Talia, King and more.

Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 ending explained: What happened to D?

D’s fate at the end of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is one of the most complicated, since it literally leaves what happened to him up in the air – following his big battle with the various megacorps now after him.

After finally being able to reacquire Capri’s chip from Talia, D, revealed to be called ‘David’ (just like David Martinez), promises the AI personality construct that he’ll no longer be driven by a hateful lust for revenge as he was before.

Instead, he wants him and Capri to have fun again, just as they did when he put her chip in him for the first time.

Soon after Capri repairs D with a new cybernetic arm and leg, the two set off knowing they’ll be hunted by the megacorps like Kang Tao, Militech, and Arasaka.

As predicted by Kyoko, what seems to be a mixed military convoy made up of all three companies comes after them, with D and Capri happy to take them on, saying: “Let’s have some fun”.

After what seems like a lengthy battle, with D having visibility taken on some extra injuries, but also holding a recording reel video camera up for Roman and saying his farewells, he and Capri seemingly try to take to the stars before the military forces can finish them off — and a big explosion gets followed by a widespread blackout, the cause of which is still unknown.

Roman, who’s later recording other survivors, asks Omi what happened to D; she said: “he went out with a bang”, implying he died fighting on his terms with Capri, with whom he was the happiest he’d ever been.

Still, the twinkle in the starry sky does imply D and Capri might have actually survived — using the latter’s powers to somehow actually fly up to space and exist there.

Realistically, it seems more like D and Capri did indeed go out in a blaze of glory, causing a huge explosion and taking as many as the corpo forces with them as they could. On the other hand, it’s definitely more one of those “up to your own interpretation” endings: either D did indeed go out with a bang, with he and Capri’s spirit merely living on in the stars (or in this case, the heavens), or they somehow defied even the crazy sciences of Cyberpunk’s world, and are living above the earth, still having fun together.

What happened to Roman?

Roman is the only main character in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 who made it out completely unscathed with no injuries whatsoever.

His loss is more under the surface. Through D, he managed to capture on film the kind of story he’s always dreamed of filming, but ended up losing his friend at the end of it all — whether D actually is alive or not.

What’s more, the final scene of the season sees him saying goodbye to Talia as well, as he drives off with Weak. That said, Edgerunners 2’s final scene sees an emotional Roman inspired with a new zest for life, determined to capture more stories and to show them to Talia.

What happened to Talia?

Despite being pushed to the brink of cyberpsychosis throughout the series, and it being thought that Capri had fully overwritten her mind as a host in episode 9, Talia actually lives to see the end of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

Instead of completely deleting her mind, it seems more that Capri temporarily merged with Talia’s consciousness whilst in her body. In that sense, the rage Talia felt towards Kiril for killing Avida, is why Capri was so quick to resort to wanton destruction in a warpath to kill Talia’s evil corpo dad.

In the same way, that’s why when D managed to remove Capri’s chip from Talia, her mind seemed to be able to go back to normal so easily.

On the other hand, it wasn’t made 100 per cent clear the status of her condition. When talking to Weak Kingsley at the hospital later, the doctor implied that Capri’s healing for Talia was indeed only temporary, and her condition went back to being terminal.

Although, in response to King asking “there’s nothing you can do?”, followed by the doctor saying they’ll start by removing her implants.

Still, it’s never really stated for certain if removing most of Talia’s cyberware actually means she’ll live, but there does seem to be hope with the place that Weak seems to be taking her: some form of unspecified rehabilitation centre away from Night City — seemingly to help with her condition that saw her needing cyberware in the first place, or to help her with life without it.

Roman and Talia do affirm that he can come visit her, and Weak does seem determined about their new life, yelling “let’s live!”. With all that, it seems that Talia’s fate after the series isn’t certain, but it’s hopeful under the idea that she could, in fact, recover.

What happened to Weak "King" Kingsley?

With his brush with cyberpsychosis in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’s opening episodes, some of us at Radio Times's anime & fantasy team thought Weak might have relapsed and kitted himself back out with enough cyberware to snap again.

Be that as it may, the former Edgerunner known as King also made it out of the anime’s finale nearly uninjured (minus his left eye, lost in the shootout with Kirel). Interestingly, it was actually Talia’s arc that went further into cyberpsychosis, but King’s own focus was on using his own experience – along with his own loss and terrible decisions — to help Talia on a better path.

Kiril did reveal to Weak that, despite what Avida told him, Talia was not actually his daughter. Nevertheless, Talia did give him a new reason to live — enough to forget about his old life as a legendary Edgerunner (symbolised by Weak abandoning his “King” jacket to go after her).

At the end, with both of Talia’s biological parents gone, Weak took on the role of her father after all. What’s more, King seems to have made peace with his mistakes, too; when seeing Miguel running from the authorities, Weak smiles that his former friend has moved on with his life, no longer daunted by the loss of Emily during the first episode.

Dedicated to helping her recover, he takes her off to the unspecified place outside of Night City that could help her — filled with a new drive to make the most of life with his now-daughter by his side.

What happened to Kyoko?

Despite her self-serving allegiances seeing her jump between working with Arasaka, Kang Tao and Roman, Kyoko eventually deciding to do what’s right saw her end.

Setting off the CPRN-XW-1 (essentially a giant EMP), Kyoko managed to stop Talia/Capri’s giant techno-monster rampage and the corpo-launched bombs about to land all in one. Sadly, the resulting chaos of numerous falling debris ended with Kyoko’s bottom half of her body getting sliced or crushed off on the way down.

She survived long enough to warn a reunited D and Capri that Arasaka and Militech will be hunting for them now, as well. After D casually replied “cool, wanna watch?”, Kyoko died with a weak laugh and a small smile on her face.

What happened to Kiril?

Ironically, Kiril set his own demise in motion when slotting Capri into Talia, intending his daughter to be the AI’s permanent host. At Talia’s request, Capri went off on a murderous warpath to give Kiril a “gruesome” death for killing her mother Avida.

With the Kang Tao forces protecting him, plus D and the others getting involved trying to stop Capri, Kiri thought he’d get away. Unfortunately for him, Kyoko setting off her giant CPRN-XW-1 EMP caused major disarray when it shut down any electronics in a massive radius — including the Kang Tao transport he was in.

As Talia/Capri found after they managed to collect themselves, they found that half of Kiril had been crushed by a giant piece of metal debris that fell when the EMP went off, killing him instantly and granting them the gruesome death they were after.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is available to stream right now on Crunchyroll.
