Much to the dismay of music fans everywhere, Glastonbury was cancelled for the second year running in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, that doesn't mean that there wouldn't be any performances at all, and instead organisers Michael and Emily Eavis organised a virtual event from the site in Pilton, Somerset.

Filmed across Worthy Farm including at iconic locations such as the Pyramid Field and the Stone Circle, the livestream took place in May 2021 and supported Glastonbury’s three main charitable partners Oxfam, Greenpeace and WaterAid, as well as helping to secure the festival’s return in 2022.

Now the recorded livestream is heading to television - meaning new performances from the likes of Coldplay, HAIM and Damon Albarn will soon be available for all to enjoy from the comfort of our much less muddy homes.

That's not all however - the BBC are planning a full-on Glastonbury takeover this weekend, with The Glastonbury Experience 2021 featuring performances past and present dominating BBC iPlayer, BBC Two and BBC Radio.

It may not be an in-person event, but Glastonbury is very much coming to us this year - here's everything you need to know about the BBC broadcast of Glastonbury 2021.

When is Glastonbury 2021 on TV?

Glastonbury 2021’s Live At Worthy Farm will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer from Thursday 24th June.

Formerly broadcast as six five-hour livestreams on the 22nd and 23rd May, Live at Worthy Farm will be available to watch on the streaming service as individual performances.

Highlights from the livestream will also be broadcast on BBC Two at 10pm on Sunday 27th June. They will be preceded by exclusive documentary Live At Worthy Farm: Backstage at 9pm, during which presenter Jo Whiley explores how this once-in-a-lifetime event was put together.

When is The Glastonbury Experience 2021?

Glastonbury Festival

It's not just this year's Live At Worthy Farm that will be broadcast - the BBC are planning a full-on Glastonbury takeover across TV, radio, iPlayer and Sounds on the weekend of Friday 25th – Sunday 27th June 2021.

The musical extravaganza of Glastonbury both past and present will be a multi-platform affair across BBC iPlayer, TV, radio, and Sounds, with over 50 full sets available on iPlayer alone.

That's an awful lot of classic concerts from the iconic Somerset music festival - here's a breakdown of which sets are available on each platform.

BBC iPlayer

In addition to the 2021 Live at Worthy Farm performances, iPlayer will also be hosting the returning pop-up Glastonbury channel, which will be streaming from 10am to late daily from Friday 25th - June 27th.

Each day will take on a different theme, with Friday focusing on 90s Glastonbury, Saturday highlighting the 21st Century and Sunday celebrating legends who have made memorable appearances at the festival.

A mix of classic sets, documentaries and specially curated programmes will stream throughout the day, with presenters Jo Whiley, Clara Amfo and Lauren Laverne choosing their two favourite sets to air over the weekend.

Over 50 full Glastonbury sets from the BBC archive were also made available on the streaming service on Monday 24th June.

Glastonbury 2021 line-up: Who's performing?

Live At Worthy Farm assembled a killer line-up which should have no trouble recreating the excitement of a typical Glastonbury Festival, with Coldplay getting top billing on the limited edition poster.

Music fans can also expect to see exclusive performances from the likes of Blur frontman Damon Albarn, rock groups HAIM, IDLES and Wolf Alice, as well as Jorja Smith, Kano and Michael Kiwanuka.

There will also be special guests throughout, while superstar DJ Honey Dijon will also feature.

When is the next Glastonbury festival?

Glastonbury was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and the decision was made to postpone the event again this year as the battle against the virus continues.

The next Glastonbury Festival is scheduled to take place from Wednesday 22nd June to Sunday 26th June 2022, but tickets are sold out having rolled over twice since the event's first cancellation.
