Alison Hammond has said that she wouldn’t have been able to fit a hosting role on Strictly Come Dancing into her schedule.

The TV favourite was among the names rumoured to be replacing Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman on the show after the pair announced they would be standing down at the end of last year.

But speaking recently to Trish Adudu on BBC Radio WM, Hammond – who hosts several shows on TV including This Morning, The Great British Bake Off and For the Love of Dogs – said: "I couldn't have fitted it in.

"It would have been amazing – you know I love a bit of a dance – but it would have been just too much for me. I need to have a little bit of quality time at home as well. You've got to have a balance in your life."

However, Hammond heaped praise upon new hosts Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe, calling them "the dream team".

"Although it would have been lovely, Emma, Josh and Jojo – they're going to be just brilliant," she added.

The presenter previously told Radio Times that she turned down an offer to become the host of Strictly Come Dancing as she was too busy - but later backtracked on her claim.

“I’m so busy, babes, that I’m not sure it’s going to happen,” she told Radio Times back in April. “It’s unrealistic. I’m so happy they considered me, but I can’t do it because everything clashes.”

However, later that month, she walked back the suggestion that she was offered the job, telling Metro in a new interview: "Do you think I would turn down Strictly if Strictly came along? Who would turn down Strictly! They’d be absolutely crazy."

She continued: "I was trying to back them off because ultimately everyone keeps putting my name in the mix and they’re ruining my chances of even getting on to Strictly, d’you know what I mean? You all need to stop talking about it because I need to get in."
