This week's ninth episode of The Testaments takes a step away from the original Margaret Atwood novel with its own dark spin on events, underlining the fact that these Gilead girls are left to pick up the pieces of the mistakes made by the men around them.

Upon learning about Dr Grove's (Randal Edwards) sexual assault on Agnes (Chase Infiniti), Daisy (Lucy Halliday) takes matters into her own hands in order to ensure that justice will prevail. But nothing could've prepared us for the action that Agnes's best friend Becka (Mattea Conforti) would take at the end of the episode – and its heartbreaking outcome.

So far this season, The Testaments has dispelled fan theories, crafted Emmy-worthy performances, seen shock returns of Handmaid's Tale characters and given us insight into Aunt Lydia's (Ann Dowd) life in the before times. So, it's safe to say that because this first season has been so strong, we're all primed for what is set to be a gripping finale.

Thankfully, as we inch closer towards the end of the season, we can rest easy in the fact that the show's creator could "write Agnes scenes for the rest of his life" if he could, adding in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he's planning on penning "three to five seasons".

But when can fans expect to see the final episode? Read on for everything you need to know about the release schedule for The Testaments.

The Testaments is described as a “new chapter” in The Handmaid’s Tale story and is based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood that is also set in Gilead.

Agnes is one the students at Aunt Lydia’s elite school there, where teenage girls are taught how to be dutiful future wives for the commanders and prominent members of Gilead society. She is the adopted daughter of Commander MacKenzie and his wife Tabitha, and also June’s stolen first daughter, who was originally named Hannah.

The synopsis for the new series indicates there will be trouble ahead for Agnes and her fellow students: “The series follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders.

"As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.”
