With the likes of The Madison, Dutton Ranch, Marshals and Lioness all having had their futures confirmed (with new seasons arriving imminently), you'd think that series creator Taylor Sheridan would have his hands pretty full.

But there's no rest for the wicked, or at least for the American writer and director, as it's now been reported that Sheridan has penned yet another drama – and this time, it's set a little closer to home for his UK fans.
It's been reported in The Sun that Sheridan has penned The Laird, a new Scotland-set drama with its title denoting that its focus will be on a large estate owner in the country.

A TV insider for The Sun said: "This drama is likely to explore the links between Scotland and America, which is a theme that has come up in previous shows such as Yellowstone.
"That Western featured the Dutton family who revealed they originated in the Scottish Highlands, and in the 18th and 19th centuries huge numbers of Scots emigrated across the Atlantic to start new lives.
"In a darker chapter of the country’s history, many Scots also became involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade, becoming rich landowners in the process and giving their names to many of the slaves they owned."
It has also been reported that filming for The Laird is set to kick off later this month in Scotland, with release due for 2027 on Paramount+. Radio Times has reached out to Paramount+ for comment.

As fans of the show will know, the Dutton family that are at the forefront of the Yellowstone universe are believed to have Scottish ancestry. So whether or not The Laird could be a prequel of some sort remains to be seen, but this could very well be a possibility.
As of now, details on the series are pretty thin on the ground but if we know anything about Sheridan's repertoire, it's that his shows are character-driven, often emotional and regularly gritty. As for casting, Sheridan has been known to attract a host of big names.
Michelle Pfeiffer leads The Madison whilst Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly all star in the upcoming third instalment of Lioness. Billy Bob Thornton and Demi Moore also front Landman so there's certainly a lot of A-list name promise when it comes to who we could see in The Laird.
