Jennifer Ehle, Peter Mullan, Phia Saban, Ruaridh Mollica, Holliday Grainger, Douglas Hodge and Corey Mylchreest have all signed up for the series, which is currently filming in Scotland and London.

Branagh, the Oppenheimer and Mayday star who won an Oscar, an Emmy and a Golden Globe, leads the cast as the Laird of Castle Drummoch and also executive produces. He is joined by Peter Sarsgaard (Boys Don't Cry), who plays a shadowy American billionaire intent on buying up the glens.

Set in the modern Scottish Highlands, Laird follows a proud Scot who defies the oligarchical land grab threatening his ancestral territory. Amid family feuds, buried secrets and star-crossed romances, the Laird remains determined to protect Castle Drummoch and its lands.

The incoming cast brings a run of recognisable credits. Phia Saban plays Helaena Targaryen in House of the Dragon and has also appeared in The Last Kingdom. Peter Mullan, who featured as Jacob Snell in Ozark, most recently starred in I Swear. Corey Mylchreest broke through as the young King George III in Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and has since appeared in Hostage.

They are joined by Jennifer Ehle (Contagion), Ruaridh Mollica (VisionQuest), Holliday Grainger (Strike) and Douglas Hodge (Joker).

Laird is created by Jez Butterworth (MobLand, The Agency), John-Henry Butterworth (Nine Perfect Strangers, The Agency) and Georgia Lee (Destination, Mudtown), and produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, the production company behind Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone.

Branagh executive produces alongside David C Glasser, the Butterworths, Joe Wright, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Charles Finch and Keith Cox. Two-time BAFTA-winning filmmaker Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Darkest Hour) is attached to direct the pilot.

The series was tipped to start filming in Scotland earlier this year, and will premiere globally and exclusively on Paramount+.
