The series centres on Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) and Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram), two women whose worlds converge in an unexpected yet fatal way.

Set in the city of Baltimore during the '60s around the disappearance of a local young girl, the series showcases how the case has an impact on these two women and how their lives collide.

According to the synopsis: "Maddie Schwartz is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Sherwood is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family.

"Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger."

But what will become of these two women? While they seem to lead starkly different lives, we see that they both have their own fair share of familial problems and personal unrest in their own communities in Baltimore.

The new seven-part series comes from director Alma Har'el, and follows these two parallel stories of Cleo and Maddie whose secrets and lives soon start to be revealed, becoming "an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams".
