Hulu has confirmed that Good American Family will return for a second season – but the true-crime drama is changing shape entirely, pivoting to an anthology format that swaps the Natalia Grace saga for the notorious case of Lorena and John Bobbitt.

Variety confirms that series creator, writer and executive producer Katie Robbins will return, alongside season 1 star and executive producer Ellen Pompeo. In a significant shift, Pompeo is not expected to act in the new run, remaining behind the camera as an executive producer instead.
The second season will move away from the Natalia Grace adoption story that anchored the first, retooling the show as an anthology built around a fresh real-life case each time. Season 2 turns to the Bobbitts, the Virginia couple whose 1993 case became one of the most infamous tabloid stories of the decade.

The official logline describes it as "a limited series inspired by the ripped-from-the-headlines story of Lorena and John Bobbitt, a Virginia couple who incited a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war."
Pompeo and Robbins reportedly began discussing anthology ideas shortly after the season 1 finale, according to Deadline. Laura Holstein executive produces under her and Pompeo's Calamity Jane banner, with Andrew Stearn also executive producing and 20th Television as the studio.

Good American Family marked Pompeo's first major acting role since she stepped back from Grey's Anatomy. The first season premiered on Hulu on 19 March 2025 and reached UK viewers on Disney+.
It starred Imogen Faith Reid, in her breakout lead role, as Natalia Grace, a young girl with a rare form of dwarfism adopted in 2010 by Kristine and Michael Barnett under the belief she was still a child. Pompeo played Kristine, with Mark Duplass as Michael, alongside Dulé Hill, Christina Hendricks, Sarayu Blue and Jenny O'Hara.
Pompeo and Robbins are also currently working together on the Hulu pilot Chicks, picked up in June, which will star Pompeo alongside Jodie Whittaker.
