Even though the game was remade once already on the 3DS (a fantastic version of the game too, we might add), Lylat Wars – or Star Fox 64 as it is otherwise known – is back on Switch 2 with a very shiny new lick of paint.
Fox McCloud and the Star Fox gang are back but how much bang do you get for your buck? How long is a playthrough? How many missions are there? All of this and more is answered in the article below.
So, do a barrel roll down through the page to find out how many missions are in Star Fox, the full list of planets (stages) and the best order to play them in.
How long is a Star Fox playthrough?
One playthrough of the Star Fox story should take you around 2-3 hours.
Each mission lasts between 10-20 minutes and you will pilot and blast your way through seven of them in a single playthrough.
If this sounds on the short side, you'll be glad to know that you can take different routes and there are a bunch of different planets to save from the evil Andross.
Unlocking all the routes and completing each mission will take you several hours more.
It's worth remembering that you'll always start on Corneria in a playthrough!
How many missions are in Star Fox?

Star Fox. Nintendo
There are 16 missions in Star Fox.
In each play-through, you will be able to see seven of these missions, meaning you'll have to play the game through more than once to see all the possibilities.
Finding different planets requires you to pick different routes on each stage, which are usually signposted pretty well, so you shouldn't struggle to find and complete them all.
Each mission can be replayed to unlock achievements too and you'll get different cutscenes depending on the route you take.
You'll want to complete them all!

Best order to tackle Star Fox planets

Star Fox. Nintendo
While the order you take, especially on your first playthrough, will depend on how you complete each mission, some are geared more towards first time players than others and there's even a route that Miyamoto prefers!
The standard opening route which is easiest for new players is Corneria-Meteo-Fichina-Sector X-Titania-Bolse-Venom, for example.
Chances are you'll probably start with this if you're a new player and follow the game's easier options.
Famously, in the Nintendo Power Player's Guide for Star Fox 64, Shigeru Miyamoto offered up his favourite route to take in a playthrough of the game.
Miyamoto's Star Fox route can still be achieved on the Switch 2 and is the following: Corneria-Sector Y-Katina-Sector X-Sector Z-Area 6-Venom 2.
Will you take on Miyamoto's preferred route or simply see where the Arwings take you? The choice is yours.
