Sony has confirmed that PlayStation consoles will be getting more expensive, as the cost of living crisis hits gamers in the wallet once again.

Just yesterday, Nintendo confirmed that physical editions of its games would be getting more expensive, and you don’t need us to tell you that subscription services have been getting more pricey over the years as well.

And now, we’ve heard straight from the horse’s mouth that all the different versions of the PS5 – the base model, tho Pro version, and the Digital Edition – will all be getting more expensive. The PS Portal handheld device is also seeing its price go up.

The new prices and the old ones, along with the relevant links to the PlayStation Store, are as follows:

PS5 base model

PS5 Pro

PS5 Digital Edition

PS Portal

All of these price increases will come into effect on 2 April 2026. So if you’ve already got the money put aside to buy one of these products, you might want to do that sooner rather than later!

As for the reasons behind this price increase, Sony said on the PlayStation Blog, “With continued pressures in the global economic landscape, we’ve made the decision to increase the prices of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal remote player globally.

“We know that price changes impact our community, and after careful evaluation, we found this was a necessary step to ensure we can continue delivering innovative, high-quality gaming experiences to players worldwide.”

Players at home never like to see price increases, but there’s no denying that this is the year of everything going up, with everything from tariffs to war to chip shortages driving these increases.
