Crafting a campfire in Minecraft will help you to survive in a number of ways. You can cook food at a campfire, they produce light (perfect in a cave!), can melt snow, and can act as a guide to show you how to get back somewhere.

You can even place a campfire under a beehive or bee nest to harvest honey without getting stung.

Talk about useful.

Fortunately, making a campfire is a fairly simple process, if you know what to do and which materials you need.

With regards to what you can do with a campfire, obviously, they produce light in an area which is their primary use but that's not their only reason for being. They can be used to melt snow, they can be a guide to show you how to get back somewhere, and you can even cook food on them.

How to put out a campfire in Minecraft

You can put out a campfire in Minecraft by throwing water onto it or by hitting it with a shovel. Using a shovel is probably the best way to extinguish a campfire, as you won't flood the surrounding area with water.

Over on the official Minecraft website, the development team tells us that you can "place a trapdoor (which can even be redstone-controlled) above the fire, which will block all the smoke until it opens again".

This is a good method if you want to hide your presence for whatever reason.
