It’s certainly looking good for PlayStation fans at the moment, with big upcoming titles like Wolverine and the steady slew of new PS Plus games, and now a locked in date for Faye's solo God of War adventure.

If you’re yet to join the Sony camp, then be sure to check out the best PS5 deals, as the console has only become more expensive due to the memory pricing crisis brought about by the AI data centre rush.

But for all things Faye, read on for some God of War Laufey release date news, and a whole lot more!

When is the God of War Laufey release date?

The God of War Laufey release date is 16 February 2026, the developers have confirmed.

This means that Sony has swerved the drama of competing directly with Grand Theft Auto 6 this holiday season, with February becoming a popular pick for games that want to avoid GTA 6.

Other games slated for February 2027 include Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, Persona 4 Revival, Fable and Metro 2039.

Can I pre-order God of War Laufey?

No, you cannot currently pre-order God of War Laufey.

You can wishlist God of War Laufey on the PlayStation Store; however, and you will be notified when any news regarding pre-orders.

We also don’t know what sort of editions God of War Laufey will receive, but looking at the previous title, God of War Ragnarok, we can assume there will be some fairly swanky Deluxe and Collector’s editions that will come with all manner of goodies, swag and loot.

Here’s hoping for a squishy Phranque stress cube!

Which consoles and platforms can play God of War Laufey?

God of War Laufey has only been announced for PlayStation 5.

There will be no PS4 version, as was the case with God of War Ragnarok, making it a current-generation affair only.

Recently, it was revealed that Sony was moving away from PC ports of its single-player titles, so it seems likely that God of War Laufey will remain a PlayStation exclusive for the foreseeable.

Seeing as the game is coming out quite late in the PlayStation 5’s lifecycle, it will probably receive a PlayStation 6 version, as well that may introduce new features, such as ray-tracing and higher framerates and resolutions.

God of War Laufey gameplay and story details

God of War Laufey is set concurrently with God of War 2018, and follows Faye's journey through the afterlife after she is laid to rest by her husband, Kratos.

The game's setting is laid out on the official product page: “Awakening unexpectedly in a strange land after her death, Faye discovers the plans she put in place to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence are now at risk.”

And as is the case with Kratos, there is little time to rest, as in order “to save the ones she loves, Faye must fight through the afterlife of the gods – the Everywhen – where ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power in a land overflowing with dangerous magic".

So far, we have seen the Egyptian god of war, fire, plague and healing Sekhmet, and her companion Begtse, a Buddhist war deity.

Faye, with Deborah Ann Woll reprising the role, isn’t on her own, however, as she has a trusty cube companion, Phranque, voiced by Jack Quiad and an enchanted ribbon, Rue, voiced by Perlina Lau.

In terms of gameplay, God of War Laufey appears to be more akin to the combat found in the original games, with much free-flowing action and the ability to jump, something that’s been missing from the series for many years now.

Is there a God of War Laufey trailer?

Indeed there is, and you can check out the lengthy reveal just below!

The in-depth look, shown at the June 2026 PlayStation State of Play, shows Laufey as she is laid to rest by Kratos and Atreus before ascending to the afterlife, which all seems to be going hunky dory until she is set upon by the aforementioned inhabitants of Everywhen, Begtse and Sekhmet.

From there, things go downhill, with Faye imprisoned, all the while Kratos and Atreus think she is at eternal rest, bless them.

The trailer does give us a good look at just how different and vertical the combat is compared to the previous two entries, making for a much more frenetic pace.
