Summary

When Martin and Ashley embark on a metal detecting trip in the fields of a farm they find a hoard of buried Saxon treasure worth millions. They must deal with the dilemma of declaring it or selling it privately with the help of Ashley's ex-con friend. Drama, starring Neil Morrissey, James Buckley and Fay Ripley

Review

Jane Rackham

Martin (Neil Morrissey) is a decent, law-abiding — almost dull — bloke who has been comfortably married to Anne (Fay Ripley) for decades. He quietly enjoys his hobby of giving poorly attended lectures on local history and going metal detecting in the Somerset countryside. He never finds anything.

Until he and his slightly gobby future son-in-law Ashley (James Buckley) uncover a hoard of buried Saxon treasure. Martin’s adamant they should follow the rules and declare it as a significant historical find. But mounting financial pressures and Ashley’s persuasive efforts (“When was the last time either of us got a break?”), eventually tempt him off the straight and narrow to sell the items privately. It’s a decision you just know he’s going to regret.

The Good Karma Hospital’s Dan Sefton has written an amiable four-part drama with a gently thought-provoking premise about how even the most ethical of people can sometimes lose their moral compass.
