If you’re a fan of the paranormal, this six-part drama from writer Jack Thorne (Skins, This Is England ’86) may well be for you.
Teenage pals Paul (Iain de Caestecker) and Mac (Daniel Kaluuya) are scoping out a deserted shopping centre when Paul — a sensitive type prone to apocalyptic dreams and bedwetting — witnesses an attack. By what, he’s not sure, but he’s soon pulled into a story involving seeing dead people (the Fades of the title), “ghost-busters” — including Daniela Nardini as a pistol-packing priest — and more horror/comic-book/ghost-movie references than you can shake Freddy Krueger’s glove at.
The series boasts strong casting and visuals, a light but effective hand with the grisly and a genuinely intriguing premise. But what’s with the crows that start falling out of the sky whenever Paul walks by?
