Review
Jane Rackham
This illuminating companion documentary to this week’s drama series introduces us to the real Delia Balmer, who survived serial killer John Sweeney’s attempt to murder her in 1994.
She seems less abrasive than in the drama and is surprisingly calm when describing the frenzied attack — although she’s still angry about it and her treatment. “They made a mockery out of all my scars and pain to prove what they already knew,” she says scathingly of the police.
Shedding more light on this horrific case are former detectives who worked on it, as well as a criminologist who explains how John chose and seduced his victims.
