Summary

Bend and snap with delight as Elle Woods, the tenacious heroine from Legally Blonde, paddles through the murky waters of high school in an eight-part prequel TV series created by Laura Kittrell. Reese Witherspoon is one of the executive producers of the show, which coincides with the film's 25th anniversary. Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) draws strength from her relationships with her indomitable mother Eva (June Diane Raphael) and father Wyatt (Tom Everett Scott) as she surveys the questionable fashion choices of her classmates. The spunky and resourceful teenager charts a path through fractious friendships and forbidden romance, looking to fit in without sacrificing her pink-saturated individuality. Elle's high school experience will gradually mould her into the go-getter, who will shatter preconceptions at Harvard Law School

Review

Jack Seale

A good idea for a series will take you a long way, and this is an excellent idea: it revives the character of Elle Woods, made famous by Reese Witherspoon in the hit 2001 movie Legally Blonde, and moves her back to her high- school years.

Elle (now played by Lexi Minetree) is a pampered California rich girl until her father suffers a professional embarrassment and the Woods family is obliged to move to Seattle. And this is 1995, so grunge is the main Seattle aesthetic. Elle has to deal with a lot of people who see her pink, fluffy optimism and wrongly assume she has no brain.

It should be a lot of peppy fun and in the odd moment it is, but the scripts seem to be deliberately half-baked, as if the show isn’t expecting your full attention. Minetree, meanwhile, is no Reese Witherspoon, but she tries to bring enough snap to make Elle a pleasant distraction.
