Review

Frances Taylor

This methodical and well-paced occasional documentary series returns to chart another cold case using fixed rig cameras in a Scottish courtroom.

Dr Brenda Page was a leading geneticist at Aberdeen University when she was murdered in 1978. The 32-year-old’s ex-husband Christopher Harrisson was arrested shortly after Page’s body was discovered at her flat, but then released without charge.

Over 40 years on, an unemotional 81-year-old Harrisson sits in court. Prosecutor Alex Prentice KC (who was also the prosecution in Murder Trial: The Disappearance of Renee and Andew MacRae, available on iPlayer) presents evidence including a distressing computer generation of Page’s injuries. But it’s evidence from Page herself that’s most affecting. Before her death, she wrote to her solicitor outlining the reasons she wanted a divorce. When the contents of her letter are read to the court, it’s haunting. Concludes tomorrow.
