Knives Out writer/ director Rian Johnson has clearly developed a taste for the murder mystery. This series is about an offbeat sleuth featuring Natasha Lyonne’s Charlie Cale, a wisecracking poker savant who can perfectly detect any bluff or lie. While Knives Out is pure Christie confection, Poker Face takes the lead from another classic — Peter Falk’s Columbo — with each episode revealing the murderer at the outset. It’s up to our hero to find out what we already know. In other words, it’s more of a “howcatchem” and it works brilliantly.
