If superheroes were real, what would they be like? It’s an idea that’s often explored in cinema, but few depictions have been as convincing – or cynical – as that in The Boys. In this world, those with superpowers are monstrous celebrities who can crush your skull with a blink of an eye and are kept in check by an army of PR experts.
Only a few renegades – the titular Boys – have fought back against the “supes”, and as we enter this final series things are worse than ever. The narcissistic Homelander (Antony Starr) has taken over the Oval Office and plans to make himself immortal. Stopping him may require releasing a virus that kills every superhero on the planet, including the ones who want to help humanity.
