While Paramount+’s final season of Yellowstone was ongoing, its creator Taylor Sheridan was already back with a new project. Yes, it’s Yellowstone-y, with tough men and women facing off against each other in bruising power struggles, but it’s set in the recent past, in west Texas, where an oil boom puts big companies, rogue billionaires, drug cartels and law enforcement on a collision course.

Billy Bob Thornton is great as the oil man wielding power in a lawless wasteland; Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Michael Peña round out a strong cast. The macho dialogue can be a bit much, but the show evokes the brutal reality of the oil business.
