What Does My Voice Say About Me?
Summary
Marnie Chesterton and Caroline Steel investigate the science behind the individuality of people's voices and explore what factors determine the sound of a voice
Review
Tom Goulding
Few but the most self-conscious may stop and contemplate the way their own voice sounds, but it’s top of the list of questions for Marnie Chesterton this week as a trainee teacher asks what factors determine the way we sound. Smooth like honey or rough like gravel, what can our voices tell us about ourselves?
Chesterton tackles other voice-related questions: a listener in the kingdom of Eswatini in southern Africa wants to know why people there seem to speak more loudly than in other countries. There’s also the matter of why it is sometimes difficult to tell the voices of two people apart. Chesterton calls co-presenter Caroline Steel to try to get to the bottom of the puzzle.
