Barns on telly aren’t only used to house clever renovations of beloved family objects. Here it’s the home of a bid to keep ancient and under- threat crafts alive, as this charming series returns. Fittingly, its Grade II listed Cambridgeshire base has parts that date back to the 13th century and, in the first of four programmes, blacksmithing is the hot topic.

A sleek Bill Bailey joins young Brân, Brad and Georgia as they take instruction from King’s Foundation alumnus Ian Thackray. They’ve taken unusual pathways to the anvil, from speed skating to aerospace engineering. BB has a bash himself, while visiting a construction that changed the world: the Iron Bridge in Shropshire.

There’s an element of “You have ten minutes remaining” and frantic cellos on the soundtrack, but no stress-tears: competition is the smallest component here. The trio’s passion for creating metalwork flowers shows that the craft’s future is rosy indeed. You’ll learn all about fire welds and peening hammers, and sparks will fly—literally
