If you like Nordic noir, how about a bit of Welsh Noir with Hinterland, a dense and moody crime thriller? The murder mystery, set in Aberystwyth and the glorious west coast of Wales, bears all the hallmarks of The Killing/The Bridge: the flat light, the troubled cop, the slow unfurling of a story. There is blood in those stubby, snow-fl cked hills; an elderly woman, the former head of a children’s home, is missing and her bungalow looks like a charnel house.
The handsome and brooding DCI Tom Matthias (Richard Harrington) investigates. Though the children’s home-legacy theme is too familiar, Hinterland is fresh and compelling.
