Alex Polizzi has helped countless establishments that are struggling financially but, until now, never a novice hotelier who faces going under before she’s had even a single guest to stay.

Claire’s dream is a quirky six-bedroom hotel above the bar she runs in Redcar, North Yorkshire, but she’s spent her savings, has a large bridging loan to repay and has earned nothing. Straight-talking Alex swoops in — “this looks like a charity shop… get rid of this crap” — and swiftly revamps the rooms, making them stylish and fit for purpose. But then, just days before opening, the council throws a spanner in the works. It’s a tense, riveting and emotional watch.
