Review

Jane Rackham

This may divide fans of C4’s Astrid: Murder in Paris because it’s a British remake of that French crime drama. Patience (Ella Maisy Purvis) is an autistic archivist in York’s police records department who has a talent for solving puzzles. Bea (Laura Fraser) is a slightly disorganised detective who meets her while investigating a man’s self-immolation, which her colleagues (including Mark Benton’s DCI Calvin Baxter) initially think is a case of suicide.

Patience and Bea’s partnership is an unlikely one and their cases are of the mysterious locked-room style but at the core of this series is how they gradually understand the way the other views the world. What’s especially interesting is that all neurodivergent characters are played by neurodiverse actors.
