Argentina v Switzerland

Summary

Argentina v Switzerland (Kick-off 2.00am). Coverage of the fourth quarter-final, which takes place at Kansas City Stadium in the USA. Current World Cup holders Argentina survived an almighty scare in the last round as they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Egypt. The African side had gone two goals ahead with 23 minutes remaining but three goals inside 13 minutes from Cristian Romero, Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez saw Argentina progress to their second successive quarter-final in this competition. Switzerland reached their first quarter-final since 1954 after they beat Colombia 4-3 on penalties after the game finished 0-0 in Vancouver. Before Tuesday's victory the European side had reached the round-of-16 at the last three World Cups, but heroics from goalkeeper Gregor Kobel ended that run and helped them reach this stage for the first time in 72 years

Review

Ned Holmes

Argentina aim to continue their World Cup defence against Switzerland in the fourth and final quarter-final. The holders looked down and out when they trailed Egypt with time running out but Lionel Messi sparked a remarkable, if a little controversial, comeback to send them through to the quarter-finals.

The Swiss will feel they can get after their South American opponents and that a spot in the semi-finals, against either Norway or England, is within reach.
