Review

David Brown

John Sugar – Californian detective, classic film fan…and alien. For some, the only thing more surprising than season one’s revelation that Colin Farrell’s hard-boiled PI was an extraterrestrial will be the fact that he’s back for a second outing. Because, let’s face it, that twist was either inspired or completely haywire, depending on your tolerance for tonal whiplash.

Credit where it’s due, though: this mystery doesn’t shy away from the bombshell, splitting its focus between a missing-persons case involving a boxer’s older brother and a more personal investigation into who, among the city’s power players, might have it in for Sugar’s species.
