Summary

A new group of guests have barely touched down before the games begin as host Stephen Mangan welcomes 11 new pairs to the hostelry with a Day Trip Challenge that kicks off on the airport runway. It's a race that involves taxis, boats and the Caribbean Sea. Pairs must retrieve keys to earn their place at the hotel, but who will get a room and who will be at risk of heading home with emotions already running high?

Of all the “It’s a bit like The Traitors, but…” competitive reality shows that have sprung up in recent years, this is one of the more enjoyable.

Stephen Mangan (looking as though he’s having a lovely time; hardly unsurprising given that he’s wafting around Granada in pressed linen) is back to welcome a new set of guests to The Fortune Hotel. If you know what “the first case swap at the nightcap in the Lady Luck Bar” means, you likely partook of last year’s debut series.

For the uninitiated, pairs are allocated a silver briefcase at random. Most contain nothing, but inside one is the dreaded “early checkout card” (rendering them out of the competition) and in another is £250,000. Who can keep a poker face and keep the cash?

Tactics are rampant from the jump, yet a few new twists keep things lively. Episode two airs tomorrow at 9pm, while Ellie Taylor hosts a new visual podcast over on ITVX to accompany the show.
