Review

Jack Seale

This modernised western has been a phenomenon in America and is gaining momentum on these shores. It tracks the rivalries and internal disagreements that beset Montana rancher John Dutton (Costner) and his large, fractious family as they try to maintain an old way of life. The result is a sturdy melodrama full of fabulous rural landscapes and tough-as-leather characters that appeals to conservative Americans with its ethos of standing up for what you have, but shows layers of nuance beneath the bluff exterior.
