Who is Javier Giner? Allow the 30-year-old Spanish writer and film-maker — he was assistant director to Pedro Almodóvar on Talk to Her — to introduce himself: “I am an annoying, dramatic, arrogant, loud-mouthed, frivolous clown.”

Self-lacerating frankness is the theme in this drama based on Giner’s autobiography that sees him (played by Oriol Pla) check himself into rehab to tackle his alcohol and cocaine abuse. With the help of his personal journal, a diverse cast of friends and loved ones, and a willingness to remember every detail of his past experiences, Giner confronts his addiction head-on. It’s intense.
