It’s possibly a mark of The Apprentice’s 20-year-plus pedigree that one of its standard tasks — contestants selling items on a shopping channel — now feels remarkably quaint. In this day and age, it’d probably be more accurate to have the wannabe business partners desperately flogging the stuff on Instagram or TikTok, watching their follower count dwindle as they tried to convince teenagers to buy “air-purifying headphones,” whatever those may be.

Still, there’s something appealing about watching a group of 20- and 30-somethings, who’ve probably never even turned on QVC try to adapt to the particular language and presenting style of these channels, often with disastrous results. All the better when the footage continually cuts to an unimpressed Lord Sugar (and his grandson) watching from home in polo shirts and chinos — a bit like running into a schoolteacher at the shops, it never feels quite right to see Sugar without a suit jacket.
