Author Candice Carty-Williams is already a big name in the literary world, winning plaudits for her debut novel Queenie and its follow-up People Person. Now she is turning her hand to television, and this breezy eight-part drama is her debut screen project.
Bosco Champion (Malcolm Kamulete) is newly released from prison and trying to revive his rap career with the help of his biggest supporter, sister Vita (Déja J Bowens). But when Vita’s own ambitions begin to grow, she decides to embark on her own music-paved path. Suddenly, the siblings become fierce rivals.
Peppered with original music and strong central performances, Champion hits plenty of the right notes, albeit ones that will likely appeal most to an older teen audience.
