Less a sci-fi drama, more a phenomenon, if one show could be put in a TV time capsule to sum up the 1990s, it’s The X-Files. There was even a song (by Catatonia) about FBI investigators Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
Early seasons saw the set-up at its purest, as David Duchovny’s UFO believer tries to convince sceptic Gillian Anderson that extra-terrestrials are real. But even when it threatened to disappear up its own chronology in later years, there’s still plenty to enjoy.
