Episode 1: Murder in Belfast – Sisters Seeking Justice: Part 1

Summary

Part one of two. The death of Robert McCartney, whose Sunday night at a city pub ended in a gang attack and murder. As evidence vanished, Robert's family weren't getting any answers. In the race to find out what happened to the survivor of the stabbing, the police were not the only organisation attempting to talk to witnesses

Review

David Butcher

In January 2005 Robert McCartney, a 33-year-old father of two, was stabbed and killed following an altercation in a Belfast pub. This two-part documentary traces the long fight for justice that followed, led by his five sisters, Paula, Gemma, Donna, Catherine and Claire. It was common knowledge that the men Robert clashed with were members of the Provisional IRA, and a culture of fear ensured a code of silence shrouded the killing. But the sisters ignored that code – and endured the consequences.
