David Brown
This fish-out-of-water police drama feels like Death in Paradise in reverse, in that its lead detective Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson), rather than following in his father’s footsteps in the Jamaican Constabulary, has found himself training as a DC in Aberdeen.
Lindo, you see, has just completed his final tour with the Royal Military Police and now dreams of success with New Scotland Yard. The problem being he’s only made it as far as the north-east of Scotland and life in this stony grey landscape is going to take a lot of getting used to.
Not that there’s much time to acclimatise, what with the murder of an oil industry boss (Ron Donachie, looking like he’s hewn from granite himself) leading to Lindo getting paired with streetwise superior officer DCI Lara “Bart” Bartlett (Hannah Donaldson) to investigate the crime. What follows is a straight-down-the-line procedural that’s solid rather than spectacular, though its mainstream charm results in it being a mystery that the whole household can try to solve.
