Last year, Channel 4’s series Go Back to Where You Came From helped ground the immigration debate. This excellent feature-length doc is more traditional, with sensitive filming that unpacks the mindset of migrants in France as well as protestors like Sarah in Lincolnshire, who doesn’t want a local RAF base used to house asylum seekers. Though we’re back in the Rishi Sunak era, the human stories feel timeless. Fleeing civil war, Sudanese migrant Mariam gazes out from a French beach: “Imagine all that stands between you and your dreams is this sea.”
