40 Hidden Music Treasures at the BBC
Summary
Expect the unexpected on this journey through the BBC's archive, which includes surprising songs and rare performances taken from shows that may have been forgotten. Featuring appearances by Jimi Hendrix, MC Hammer, Dusty Springfield, Tammy Wynette, the Beach Boys, Pet Shop Boys and John Martyn backed by Phil Collins
Review
Gary Rose
Tonight’s countdown from the Beeb’s hallowed archives is so cloaked in mystery that even its press release raises more questions than it answers. “Expect the unexpected”, we’re told, which is always handy when writing a preview. We do know, however, that Jimi Hendrix and Pet Shop Boys will feature, and that this will be a Top of the Pops-free zone. So presumably that means melodious memories from The Old Grey Whistle Test, Later… with Jools Holland and, if we’re lucky, maybe some snippets from the likes of Rapido, Snub TV and Cheggers Plays Pop.
