The apocalypse draws near. The Antichrist, waiting in the shadows, will soon emerge. And humanity’s only hope? A fussy angel called Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and a louche demon named Crowley (David Tennant), both of whom have a vested interest in Earth’s continued existence – they’d miss their dinners at the Ritz.

Such is the world of Good Omens, a tongue-in-cheek take on religion and Armageddon (adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name), which was first shown on Prime Video in spring 2019.

It’s full of larger-than-life characters, wry narration by Frances McDormand’s Voice of God and some pretty wacky plotting – try to keep on top of all the baby-swapping. The tone’s sometimes a little too mannered for its own good, but Tennant and Sheen make for a compelling central pairing and this six-part adaptation definitely holds on to the strengths of the original book. No surprise, given that Gaiman himself wrote the scripts.
