What’s it like being in a pop group with one big star? Culture Club’s precious internal dynamics are laid bare by this documentary, which tracks their recording of a new album and rehearsals for a comeback tour last year. Boy George is a mercurial despot in the studio, employing every controlling and distancing trick in the book to stay above and apart from his three bandmates: he’s the diva, they’re the likeable blokes who just want to play music.
As the band hurtles towards a disastrous appearance on Strictly Come Dancing, though, it becomes clear that the searing heat of their 1980s fame has left its scars on everyone, George most of all.
