David Brown
Wisteria Lane – the textbook image of a perfect suburban street. Or is it? Behind those immaculate front doors lurk extra-marital affairs, betrayals and outrageous cliffhangers worthy of the most gloriously sudsy soap opera.
This high-camp, eight-season US comedy mystery created by Marc Cherry begins with the unexpected suicide of a neighbour, who then proceeds to voice events from beyond the grave. And what a deadly chain of events she ends up presiding over, as countless twists befall the key quartet played by Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria.
Gleefully playful with its storytelling, Desperate Housewives is unafraid to blindside viewers with flashbacks, dream sequences and even an audacious five-year time jump.
