Taskmaster's New Year Treat

Summary

A New Year brings new opportunities. And for Taskmaster Greg Davies that means the chance to direct his acerbic judgement towards five incredibly special guests. Amelia Dimoldenberg, Carol Vorderman, Greg James, Sir Mo Farah and Rebecca Lucy Taylor compete in this one-off event to win the Taskmaster's eyebrows (in trophy form). Alex Horne loyally adjudicates tasks involving loads of dots, some very memorable massages and countless carp pellets - it's the perfect start to 2023!

Review

David Butcher

The coming year may present us all with tough challenges, so why not start it by watching celebrities tackle pointless ones? I’m sure there are real-world lessons to be drawn from, say, witnessing Sir Mo Farah try to count coloured dots on a card because two comedians have told him to; something about lateral thinking or not giving up when things look hopeless.

On that theme, a recent online video montage from the last run of Taskmaster simply assembled all the times contestants had groaned, “Oh no…” in the course of their struggles, and it pretty much summed up the show: exasperation made into comedy gold.

Previews for this special one-off weren’t available, but the zig-zag zither music will be introducing efforts by Sir Mo, Carol Vorderman, Greg James, Amelia Dimoldenberg and Rebecca Lucy Taylor – aka the pop star Self Esteem.
