Review
Jack Seale
Sharon Horgan has taken a back seat in her recent TV creations: she was part of a large ensemble in Bad Sisters and wasn’t in Divorce at all. But she’s front and centre again now, in an agonisingly honest comedy that draws heavily on her own life, and that of her friends who are a similar age. That age, for publisher Alex (Horgan), is 50-somethingish: her teenage son is off to university, she’s divorced from her ineffectual husband and she’s ready to resume activities that her body possibly isn’t quite ready for.
As well as a frank exploration of sex in middle age, the show also looks at the “sandwich years” – when your children still need assistance, but so do your ageing parents.
