Review

Jane Rackham

As the defence lawyer in the high-profile case of Lucy Hargreaves’s murder 20 years ago, Rob Rinder is at pains to repeat that he believes his client’s acquittal was the right one. But he does feel bad that nobody has been found guilty of the harrowing crime.

Rinder’s investigating claims that a third man – gangland boss Kevin Parle who is also wanted for the earlier killing of a 16-year-old lad – was involved. The case remains unresolved because Parle skipped the UK, but Rinder has a lively conversation with a former Met detective who has made it his mission to put Parle behind bars. Blunt-speaking Peter Bleksley is quite a character.
